THE BANNISTER COLLECTION

Breaking Barriers

In 1954, Sir Roger Bannister became the first man to run a sub-four-minute mile, and in breaking this legendary threshold, he set a standard of speed in our sport that athletes have continued to chase ever since. Goals that were once deemed unachievable have been beaten time and time again, and so the fight for going faster continues.

As we look forward to pivotal performances that will inevitably alter the course of our sport, like Faith Kipyegon’s attempt to become the first woman to break 4:00 this June, we stand in awe. Of the body, the mind, and the way hard work and hope stretch the limits of what we can do. We saw it with Bannister, and we’ll see it again – the bold, brazen act of breaking barriers.

This year’s Bannister Tee honors both past feats and future endeavors, one style representing a moment in history while the other hints at the opportunities and achievements to come. Because the future is fast.
